Lunch with Rod Blum – a group of us had lunch Tuesday with Iowa First Congressional District candidate Rob Blum at the CR HBA office.  He is a builder, developer, and owns a software company called Digital Canal  that offers home design and estimating and another that is for structural engineering – he’s totally in tune with our issues.  It was a great dialogue and we presented him with a $5k BUILD PAC check – we need to ramp up our BUILD PAC giving so that we can do that more often.  Pictured from left to right are HBAI Past President Tari Dailey, BUILD PAC Chairman Rich Fitch, HBAI President Drew Retz, Rod Blum, and HBAI Executive Officer Jay Iverson.  Cedar Rapids HBA Executive Officer Melissa Olson was also in attendance.

WOTUS Meeting Sponsored by HBAI
HBA of Iowa will have statewide exposure next Monday as we host a Waters of the United States stakeholder meeting in our offices. Governor Branstad, Lt. Governor Reynolds, Sec. Northey, most of the ag organizations, building organizations, and many state government department heads will be in attendance. It should be a great dialogue. If you have yet to explore the issue, go to our dedicated HBAI WOTUS website.

Iowa Has Room Block at Bally’s
We put together a room block at Bally’s for our Iowa contingency. We always have a group stay at the Golden Nugget downtown, but Bally’s has the monorail system right there and it’s on NAHB’s bus shuttle service too. It’s also $69 per night for a pretty decent place. Make your plans starting after Labor Day.
