Off Schedule a Bit, But Pheasant Hunting and the Holiday Bumped It

hba-phesantsWe had this newsletter scheduled to go out Thursday, as we do each Thursday. But with the holiday we didn’t want it to get lost. Plus we may need some time to put together a South Dakota pheasant hunt! This is Jay Iverson writing this and I’d like to put together a pheasant hunt yet this year. My schedule could make it work December 13 on and I have the spot. Several friends of mine from the Ankeny Ike’s, shown in this picture, limited out the first day in 29 minutes last week. My landowner said that there will be no problem getting a limit of birds. Lots of the crops are still out and being harvested now. He charges $225 per day including lodging. I’m thinking of doing two days of hunting. Email or call me, 515-278-0255 asap if you have any interest at all and we’ll build a plan together. If you’re interested in next year, let me know that too. I’d like to put together an annual event booked on the calendar the same time each year. We’ll see if we can put together some salmon or walleye trips too. Let me know! Happy Thanksgiving!

HBAI Educational Corporation Needs Volunteer Leaders

Our HBAI Educational Corporation is in need of additional volunteers. We are planning to expand the reach and financial stability of the scholarship program. A future development that will be fun to put together is the first ever Doug Mayo Memorial Golf Outing. We could use additional members for that subcommittee. If you’re interested in helping out, please email Jay Iverson.

HBAI and NAHB Message to Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds

Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds (on left) was in a meeting with representatives from NAHB last week (right side). Speaking in the photo is Kansas Lieutenant Governor Jeff Colyer. They thanked her for everything that she and Governor Branstad have done for Iowa and our members. Discussion topics included tax reform; easier, more predictable approval processes for permits; immigration and education and how the two issues affect labor; working with the federal government so there’s no federal overreach; and water issues. All in all it was an excellent discussion and she reinforced that her door is always open.

Spike Appreciation Month – Jerry Cowan: All Time Big Spike

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThere are approximately 350 members of NAHB’s Spike Club who have reached the level of Statesman Spike by earning 500 Spike Credits during their time as members. Less than 60 have reached the level of Grand Spike with more than 1000 Spike Credits and fewer than 20 are All Time Big Spikes with an amazing 1500 or more Spike Credits. Jerry Cowan, of Greensboro, N.C., is one of the few who has reached this lofty level of success and he has managed to do it in only 15 years as a member.

Since first becoming a member in 1998, Cowan has worked tirelessly as a recruiter for local associations in North Carolina and beyond. A Senior Territory Manager for Builders Mutual Insurance, Cowan makes a pitch for membership to every potential client and encourages his co- workers to become members as well. He says, “I’m motivated by the competition – the first time I saw a list of the association’s Top 10 Spikes on the wall of my HBA’s offices, I knew I wanted to be on that list. I worked hard to recruit new members and achieved that goal. When I found out about the national NAHB Spike Wall of Fame, I made that my next goal.”

NAHB.org Survey Underway

NAHB is in the process of redesigning nahb.org and your help is needed. Over the next few months, NAHB will be asking for your input in the form of surveys and focus groups. The first stage in the process is a “true intent” study. When you visit nahb.org, you may be greeted with a pop-up survey box. This survey will track your movement through nahb.org and follow up with a survey upon leaving the website. The survey will provide valuable insight into how navigation can be improved.

To participate, please accept the initial pop-up, follow the instructions, proceed with the task you came to nahb.org to complete, return to the homepage to show you are finish and are ready to take the survey. Thank you for your participation

New HBAI Net Forum – It’s Up and Running – Now Use It

Congratulations to Mike Farr and Mary Fitch, who within one minute of each other, joined the forum and posted information.  Both will win a $25 Scheels gift card for getting things started.  Here’s a testimonial post from Mike at Boyler’s Ornamental Iron:

Thanks for the invitation to join this listserve. As a subcontractor I may not post much due to the mainstream topics but I have found the information that is posted on other listserves that I subscribe to interesting and very helpful to all who subscribe, both those who post and those who lurk. Maybe even an iron guy can offer some useful information once in a while.
